Giving incentives can be helpful to jump start good work habits, but remember that it is best to teach your child to value the good feeling of completing a job well. If he/she only does work for treats then he/she will not learn to stay motivated independently... and you will go broke. So, keep the incentives small, and try using rewards that don't cost money, such as 10 minutes playing a special game, or a walk to the park. As your child becomes consistent you can make the reward more challenging. For example, if you do your homework well two nights in a row, then you get to... Eventually it has to be a whole week and before you know it you won't need the reward system.
